Plain Answers for Trenton Medicare Members
Each autumn, mailboxes across the capital fill with glossy flyers, carrier booklets and notices that read like legal contracts. Most of it can be recycled. A few pages, though, decide what your doctor visits and prescriptions will cost next year. We sit down with you by phone or video and find those pages together.
We are a small, independent agency. Since we hold appointments with more than one insurer, we can line up several plans, run your actual prescriptions and providers through each, and explain honestly which one holds up for you and why.
Trenton counted 90,871 residents in the 2020 Census. Census figures show about 46 percent of the city is Hispanic or Latino, close to one in three people were born abroad, and nearly half speak a language besides English at home. The Guatemalan community here is the largest of any New Jersey city, alongside long-rooted Puerto Rican, Dominican and Honduran families and many Black households who have lived in Trenton for generations. Reviews can happen fully in Spanish, and grown children or caregivers are welcome to join.

A Capital City With a Long Memory
On the morning of December 26, 1776, after crossing the icy Delaware, George Washington's troops surprised the Hessian garrison here, and a second fight followed on January 2, 1777. Trenton later served briefly as the nation's capital, became New Jersey's capital in 1790, and in 1838 became the seat of the newly created Mercer County. Factories along the river turned out steel wire rope, rubber, pottery and linoleum, which is why the Lower Trenton Bridge still carries the red neon words "Trenton Makes, The World Takes," first lit on that span in 1935.
That history shows up in our conversations. Folks ask whether Capital Health Regional Medical Center on Brunswick Avenue or Capital Health's St. Francis campus is covered, whether a specialist across the river in Pennsylvania counts as in-network, and what happens during a long visit with relatives in Guatemala or Puerto Rico. Those answers come first, before any application.

The Four Parts of Medicare in Brief
Part A pays for hospital admissions. In 2026, each benefit period begins with a $1,736 deductible. Part B pays for physician appointments, lab work and outpatient services, with a standard premium of $202.90 per month and a $283 deductible for the year.
Part C, better known as Medicare Advantage, hands your hospital and medical coverage to a private insurer, usually with drug benefits included. Part D covers prescriptions on its own. This year, your share of covered drug costs stops at $2,100, and insulin on a plan's list runs no more than $35 for a month's supply.
For the details, read our Original Medicare overview or the Medicare Advantage page.

What a Low Premium Can Hide
Paying nothing each month feels like a win. Then a heart medicine lands on a high tier, or the cardiologist you have seen for ten years is out of network, and the savings disappear by spring.
Our side-by-side sheets show the monthly premium, common copays, an estimated annual drug bill built on your exact prescriptions, and a yes or no for each provider on your list. With everything laid out, you make the call.
On several medications? Our Part D page explains drug lists, tiers and preferred pharmacies.

Mercer County Help Beyond Insurance
Mercer County's Office on Aging runs the Aging and Disability Resource Connection, a single place for older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers to learn about home care, Medicare and Medicaid questions, meals, housing and transportation. You can find contact information on the county ADRC page (mercercounty.org)(opens another website).
When the weather is good, many of our clients walk the grounds of Cadwalader Park, the 105-acre park laid out by the Olmsted firm and home to Ellarslie, the Trenton City Museum (NJ Historic Trust(opens another website)). Good coverage should keep that routine going.
Key Medicare Dates
Annual Open Enrollment begins October 15 and ends December 7. During those weeks you can pick up, leave or change Part C and Part D coverage, with the new plan taking effect January 1.
If you are already in Medicare Advantage, the window from January 1 through March 31 lets you make one change, to a different Part C plan or back to Original Medicare.
Nearing 65? Your Initial Enrollment Period stretches seven months around your birthday month, and signing up late can mean a permanent surcharge. Our new enrollee guide covers it, and our annual review page explains what to check every fall.

Protect Yourself From Medicare Fraud
Medicare will not phone you out of the blue to sell coverage, and an honest agent will never demand your Medicare number during a first conversation. Hang up on anyone who insists you must decide immediately. You can report suspicious calls through Medicare.gov's fraud reporting page(opens another website).
Click to CallQuestions Trenton Residents Ask Us
Is there a fee for the review?
There is none. When someone enrolls, the insurance company pays our agency, and that arrangement leaves your premium exactly where it would be anyway.
¿Me pueden atender en español?
Claro que sí. La revisión completa puede ser en español, y le ayudamos a entender los avisos y folletos de su plan.
Nothing changed for me this year. Do I still need a review?
Your health may be the same, but the plan probably is not. Carriers adjust networks, drug lists and copays every fall, and the Annual Notice of Change mailed in late September spells out what shifts on January 1. A quick read-through together catches surprises early.
Are you part of the state, the city or Medicare?
No. We are a privately owned agency with no ties to Medicare, Social Security, the State of New Jersey, Mercer County or the City of Trenton.
What do I need for the call?
A list of your medicines with strengths, the names of your doctors and the pharmacy you use. Your Medicare card number is not needed to compare plans.
